Continuing education beyond our school years is important and Franklin Media Australia recommends a simple four point method for continually developing our skills and knowledge.
READ
It has been proven in countless studies that reading can have a positive impact on our mental health, comprehension and intelligence. Reading exposes us to new ideas. It expands our vocabulary, sharpens our minds, aids in relaxation and sleep and has even been shown to delay the impacts of degenerative brain disease such as Alzheimers.
LISTEN
Listening to podcasts about subjects that interest us is something that can be done in conjunction with many other activities. Whether it is commuting to work or exercising or simply relaxing. Listening and active listening where we focus in on what is being communicated to us, understanding the information and responding to it thoughtfully. This is an important part of effective communication skills.
ATTEND
Attending training courses, classes, talks by experts in their fields and learning to critically analyse the information presented is highly beneficial. We learn more by interacting with and expanding our network of people who may have different ideas and approaches that push our individual and collective knowledge in new directions.
PRACTICE
There’s nothing more powerful than practicing what we have learned. Whether it is simulating the real activity or actively exercising our skills and experimenting with them to become more proficient.
ABOUT FRANKLIN MEDIA AUSTRALIA
Our mission is to raise the economic intelligence and prosperity of humanity. For us it is not simply about money and how to make money. It’s about developing resources and understanding how and why these resources are necessary. We believe education is key to raising people out of poverty, education empowers people to succeed and education brings people together.
The human brain is still very much a mystery to us. It is the very centre of what makes us who we are, yet it’s still impossible to quantify exactly how this biological marvel works. It is responsible for thought and movement, sensory processing and emotional behaviour. The way we each use this 3 pound mass of cells and neurotransmitters differs between every individual.
As such intelligence has been shown to express itself in a variety of ways. According to developmental psychologist Howard Gardner there are 8 types of intelligence;
- Writing Linguistic
- Mathematical Logical
- Musical
- Spatial
- Body Kinesthetic
- Interpersonal or (Knowing people)
- Intrapersonal or (Knowing yourself)
- Naturalist or the ability to make discriminations between animals, plants or anything in nature
Another form of expressed intelligence is Financial, or the ability to understand how money and currency work and how to make them work for us.
What we see as Economic Intelligence is the ability to develop our skills and intelligence in a way that recognises our strengths so they can be applied to achieving our personal economic goals.
